Gardener’s Diary

Larkspur has started to bloom, the fairy rose is almost done, color expected soon from the Penstemon.

Newspaper story that a gardener in Easthampton was bitten yesterday by a poisonous snake, the first such report in 30 years. We got “snake bit” last night, but only by toilet paper.
Wood geraniums are still blooming, the campanula is gone by, holding out hope for the Lupine.
Before Tuesday’s rain, transplanted a nice hosta that had been crowded out by one of the Montauks and put in some more perennials in Peter’s rock garden.
The heather has recovered, no buds on the hydrangeas although Candace Mary’s has a few. Should have daylilies soon. Several buds on the Clematis.
Need another tall perennial for the front of the fence, which only gets half a day’s sun, otherwise that garden is looking pretty respectable.
The horticultural oil seems to be working on the hollies since the secondary mold is about half gone, we’ll give it another week.
